"Fascism is capitalism in decay."
So much to recount, with so little time these days.
Flying around southeast Oklahoma and northeast Texas with Skip on my biannual checkride, while Peg gets hugged by a sympathetic maid at the Choctaw Casino Hotel because the young lady thinks P's been stranded there by a compulsive gambler husband.
The smoky, seizure-inducing casino space, filled with the detritus of American society, tattooed, in ball caps, playing video poker and chain smoking. There are no cocktail waitresses moving among the tables. Hell, there are no human dealers.
Flying into the north Dallas sprawl for a quick visit with the folks, Dad mostly aphasic and zoned out on the couch or in his wheelchair in front of a blaring TV. This is what hell looks and smells like. My sainted stepmother taking care of him while other, younger, more able-bodied family members sit and watch.
Getting shamed by Bobby's daughter-in-law, who'd flown up from Tucson to clean out his house and ready it for sale. "You've come to help?" she asked when she greeted us at the door. My sister was supposed to have cleaned out the refrigerator when he left a few weeks ago, but didn't. Yuck.
Holly's from Ukraine, but identifies as a Russian. The invasion was all NATO's fault. Poor Vladimir was just defending the Motherland.
Yuck.
Then an uneventful flight back here on Monday, and into the maw of a law practice I dislike more every day.
Now at the farm after delivering the plane here yesterday and fueling it up for the trip to NY next week. This is our happiest place in Florida, but it'll be good to get out of the Dumbshine State.
Where, in a few days, it'll be illegal to put fluoride in drinking water.
Evil or stupid? Both? Does it matter?
Meanwhile, in our march to fascism, Congress is on the cusp of officially abdicating its oversight responsibilities until the fourth week of football season.
To be a Republican in 2025 is to be a party to treason. There is no principled way to remain in the Grand Old Party.
Time to get ready for a painful Zoom deposition.
