“It would not be impossible to prove with sufficient repetition and a psychological understanding of the people concerned that a square is in fact a circle. They are mere words, and words can be molded until they clothe ideas and disguise.”
―Joseph Goebbels
Sitting at the farm watching the Braves try to blow a four run lead. The setup relief options are as awful as they were when I was in elementary school, and Phil Niekro ("Knucksy"!) would deliver up a two run lead into the seventh only for the bullpen to pork it away.

7-4 now. Ye gods. What the hell happened to my Bravos?
Just got off the phone with P. I told a friend the other day that, with the full benefit of hindsight over these last few years, Peg is the one true love of my life. Because of course she is. Who could have read the last five years on this blog and not seen that?
There's a wedding out there tonight. I met the groom at a chamber dinner forty degrees ago. She's eight months pregnant. I just love the optimism in this moment to start a family while the world keeps trying to implode. An old acquaintance of Peg's corralled me after the wedding, as I was trying to go feed apples to the donkeys, wanting to mend fences because he's been an advocate for the holdover vandal who lived here before. I'm a big believer in unconditional redemption when someone shows up with unconditional repentance. It's sort of the bedrock of Christianity for me. We're all okay. Like it never happened.
The header for this blog post arose from the death of the Late Show with Stephen Colbert coupled with the bad guys cutting off funding for the Corporation for Public Broadcasting. All very bad. If you don't have the gumption to go seek the truth now, it's not going to just show up at your door. We're Putin's Russia now.
Even if there's some ersatz repentance among those people when, as happens in democracies, they're on the outs and hoping no one holds them accountable, there shouldn't be any quarter. They've betrayed the legacy of this most amazing gift our Founders left for us. The thing for which we flew into badness because we believed in all that. None of them should not bear the consequences of what they've done. Nor should their supporters.
