Tara Mess Ew

"Chaos is inherent in all compounded things. Strive on with diligence."
Back at Tara, and the place is a chaotic, filthy mess.
And the hanging plants of which I was so proud when I hung them out front burned up in last week's heat wave.

It saddens me greatly that this was allowed to happen. At least Peg's little side yard garden survived.
Sitting here now in a living room that looks like a storage locker, stuffed with furniture that hasn't made the move, books, wall art, my old guitar, luggage. You get the picture.
At least it provides Slane a comfortable space to nap.

The new condo still isn't finished, and by the looks of things that's not exactly right around the corner. Too much ambitious redecorating with too little staffing, too little in the budget. Until that's done, all this furniture and miscellania will stay right here at Tara.
Last night was as miserable as it gets sleeping indoors. The guest bedroom remains more or less intact, and I slid the window unit robot air conditioner in there to fight back against the stifling heat. Despite the small space, it was never quite successful in that effort, and P and I spent the night sweating on top of the sheets like two malaria patients.
All in all, it's a pretty lousy way to spend the balance of the week. I would just move up to the condo on the lake and ask that someone call me when things are finished down here, but that would mean a 90 minute commute each way to work for Peg if she went with me. So that's out.
To quote an old aphorism thrown around by soldiers enduring a dangerous and unpleasant deployment, I suppose all there is to do is to embrace the suck. It's just life right now, and by the looks of things it's going to stay that way for a few weeks.
Peg has tasked me with doing something about the situation. We need to find someone to pack all this stuff, load it in a van, and move it. Then someone needs to come in here behind them and clean the place. Another nonbillable task to add to the never shrinking list.
Time to watch some tax class videos to meet a deadline tomorrow morning. I only received the book yesterday, and have been flying blind to this point. Not optimistic about maintaining my okay GPA when finals come around in August in the midst of a couple busy trial weeks.
And then the call came a couple minutes ago that Dad died last night in his sleep. Sort of knocks the wind out of one's chest, eh?
Selah.
