“Any good prosecutor can get a grand jury to indict a ham sandwich.”

--New York Court of Appeals Chief Judge Sol Wachtler

So, back home in the Sunshine State, a leaked grand jury report concluded that the Wee Guv and his wife stole $10m meant for poor kids' health care, and channeled it through Mrs. Wee Guv's charity and into the RPOF, which in turn used the funds to campaign against legalizing the Devil Weed.

If the report is accurate, this is straight-up criminal activity that would land you and me at an arraignment arguing about the size of our bond. Instead, it's just another day in the life of the depraved Republican Party.

One must wonder--why no indictment? Apparently the state attorney for the Second Circuit concluded there was insufficient evidence of criminal intent, because they all claimed to be relying on the advice of counsel. The SA doesn't appear to be a MAGA nut--he was elected to the job ten years ago, and Leon County has been solidly blue as long as I can remember. Maybe the downstream political pressure to forgo slapping leg irons on the state's chief executive and his TV personality wife was too much. Ironically, if this were a federal grand jury the two of them might have found themselves in a bigger pickle--the current U.S. attorney is a purely political lawyer who attended a third-tier law school and doesn't appear to have spent any time in a courtroom since just after he graduated. This is the sort of kakistocracy hire who'd be happy to do Dear Leader's bidding, and Dear Leader's never been a fan of Florida's governor.

Speaking of the Cheeto Messiah, he posted this a day or two ago.

The state of our body politic and place in the world is something to behold right now. As a NYT writer observed yesterday, quoting Macchiavelli, we are in the dangerous posture of being hated but not feared. And it is entirely because of my neighbors voting this f*cking guy into office, twice.
